The new releases are here again. If you recall, and you can page down if you don’t, I was talking about the website called AllAbouJazz.com for one of the best places on the web for jazz information and news. I raved about thta yesterday, and today I am using them because it is the big day for new releases and reissues.

There is a website I visit every week. I try hard to mention them here and give them as much credit as I can. They deserve it. The world of jazz music is filled with organizations trying to keep jazz music alive and doing so on an entirely volunteer basis. It’s tough to get paid when you love jazz. It’s a great genre of music, as is the blues, but jazz is not the most popular form of music out there. People are intimidated by it and that is too bad.

The weather has, for the most part, finally started to get warm around here. Of course, I am writing this the evening after we had a night of 39 degree weather. But still, compared to the below zero temps we had most of the winter, 39 degrees is a heatwave. On Monday, we were in the 80s and I heard people actually complaining about how hot it was. Well, your friendly neighborhood jazz and blues blogger apparently has come down with the flu.  I have been avoiding it all winter.  However, this past weekend I had to visit my grandmother in the hospital and there is no place worse to go when you want to avoid germs than a big building full of sick people.  I also had not slept well last week which always lowers the immune system’s defenses.
So, I am taking today to rest.  I would love to spend the day listening to jazz, in particular the Miles Davis Concert double-CD that is one of my favorites.  …read more

I have to admit I totally stole this idea from another b5music blogger.  At the same time, when it comes to days like this one, days when I am a bit down or discouraged, nothing is better than roaming the music sites on MySpace.  When I come across one I like, I love talking about it.  I figure, it does a couple of things.  First, it makes writing this blog an easy thing.  Second, it shows you some new music.
