Yes, I know, this is supposed to be my time to tell you about the jazz and blues festivals all over the Midwest. I will stil get around to that, but thankfully there is plenty of exciting news to go around and keep you entertained. It is now Tuesday and that means it is new releases and reissus day.
These are jazz albums, of course. I have yet to find a nice comprehensive list like this for the blues fans. Thanks to AllAboutJazz.com for the information that you find below. Again, a great website …read more

Another Tuesday and More New Jazz CDs for YOU!

Another Tuesday and More New Jazz CDs for YOU!

Well, you have made it to another Tuesday. I am starting to feel like there has been a definite switch from Jazz to Blues around here lately. What can I say, for some reason the event and festival planners around here seem to have wanted to start off the season with Blues Festivals galore. Plus, I have recently just discovered blues music for real and I am kind of excited about it.
But, I still love jazz and Tuesdays at least give me the chance to dwell in the music I love for a bit even …read more

The New Releases for the Last Week of May

The New Releases for the Last Week of May

Is it really the last week in the month of May, already? Wasn’t it just New Years Day like, yesterday? At this rate the holidays will be here in the blink of an eye. I will be celebrating my niece’s birthday before I know it. Jeez, who hit the Fast-Forward button?
Anyway, AllAboutJazz.com has a great list of CD reviews and they have this great list of new releases and reissues. It’s a cool website filled with lots of news and other things too. It is mostly volunteer and they are currently looking for volunteers, …read more

Another New Week and New Releases

Another New Week and New Releases

Ah, Tuesday, it’s such a lovely day. Seldom does Tuesday get much respect. People have football on Monday and they love to complain about it. They have Wednesday and the call it “hump day” and celebrate the fact that it is the middle of the week. On Thursday you have Must See TV or whatever they hell they are calling it today. For me it means watching Smallville, the Office and Lost. Then there’s Friday which is everyone’s day to party, I guess. For me, I always wondered why everyone was do damn …read more

It is now the month of April and that means that there are new jazz and blues albums out.  Of course, I cannot find a nice blues publication that lists all of the new releases and re-issues such as you can find at AllAboutJazz.com.  It’s a very cool site with lots of CD reviews and concert reviews.  It has just about everything a jazz nut could want.
So, without much further ado, here is the list of new releases and reissues for:

It’s Tuesday, Must be New Releases Day

It’s Tuesday, Must be New Releases Day

Does anyone know how the day Tuesday became the day for new releases?  I remember back when I worked at a music store and every Tuesday was the busiest day of the week because it was the day when all of the new releases came in.  You just hoped it was light on customers so you could get all of the product out.  Now that I have written books, I have also found that Tuesday is a day when new books come out too.  Movies come out on Fridays, books and music on Tuesdays.
So, here is a listing of the …read more

Happy St. Patricks’ Day and New Releases

Happy St. Patricks’ Day and New Releases

Well, today is technically the St. Patrick’s Day.  Of course, you probably spent the entire weekend drinking green beer, wearing those really stupid-looking green “Cat-in-the-Hat” things on your head and acting like an idiot.  Not Irish?  Well, it certainly doesn’t seem to matter.  You also, apparently, don’t need to be Mexican to do the same thing for Cinco de Mayo in a couple of months.  I am, quite frankly, shocked that Americans have not found a way to make Easter another excuse to parade about and drink in the streets.
I think that’s an interesting comment on America.  Yes, we are …read more

A Link to Eric Dolphy

A Link to Eric Dolphy

When it comes to jazz you run across certain names and they are usually whispered by fans with a kind of awe.  For me, as you may already know, that name is Miles Davis.  For my brother, it is Charlie “Bird” Parker.  For some it is John Coltrane.  One of the names you hear whispered a lot by people who want to be jazz afficianados is Eric Dolphy.  I wanted to provide you a link HERE to a great article I have found about Mr. Dolphy.
For me, I have never been a huge fan of Mr. Dolphy.  Mostly this is …read more
