The weather has, for the most part, finally started to get warm around here. Of course, I am writing this the evening after we had a night of 39 degree weather. But still, compared to the below zero temps we had most of the winter, 39 degrees is a heatwave. On Monday, we were in the 80s and I heard people actually complaining about how hot it was. Milwaukee is an interesting city.  It is maybe, at the most, two hours from Chicago.  By today’s standards, that practically makes it a suburb of Chicago, but don’t try telling that to anyone who lives or grew up in Milwaukee.  It’s a great city, really, and I have been to a few towns and cities in Wisconsin.  For me, Milwaukee is the only one I think I could live in and not go crazy.

Well, it has been a sad week in music.  With the death of a young and talented guy like Jeff, it’s always sad.  Now news comes that Jeff’s co-star in the movie “Road House,” Patrick Swayze, has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.  That’s about the worst kind you can get.  I know of a guy who died in three months after being diagnosed with that.

Best Jazz of ‘07?

Earlier in the week I talked about an article on Amazon.com that purported to be the best blues albums of 2007.  Of course, there is also a list of the supposed best jazz albums of 2007 there as well. 
In theory, I should have my own list.  I have some problems with that, though.  I am just one guy and it would be physically impossible for me to listen to every single jazz album released in 2007.  How could I reasonably be expected to create a list of my favorite albums when, at best, I may have heard only one tune …read more
