It’s a Holiday Weekend

It’s a Holiday Weekend

Well, this is what many people consider to be the official start of the summer season. It is officially Memorial Day Weekend. That, at the very least, means it is time for you to kick back, dust off the barbecue grill, and maybe open the pool. You should, at least, get a day off to boot. Of course, we here at the Jazz and Blues Lounge also feel like it is the perfect time to check out a blues or jazz show in and around the Chicago area.
Once again, I beg and plead for …read more

Catching a Jazz or Blues Show

Catching a Jazz or Blues Show

Yet another weekend is upon us folks. Yes, time to look around town and see what’s going on as far as music for the weekend. I hear they are predicting rain as far as weather anyway, so why the heck not check out a great jazz or blues show?
I want to, as always, acknowledge the help and assistance from radio station WDCB for the events and information provided below. Once again, without them, this blog would be impossible. There is no way in hell I would go door-to-door at the various blues and jazz …read more

The Jazz and Blues Shows this Weekend

The Jazz and Blues Shows this Weekend

Well, the weekend has arrived yet again and that is a good thing. That means it is once again time to take a look around the Chicago area and see what is going on in the various blues and jazz clubs. As usual, I am also making an attempt to show you what shows are going on in the suburbs.
I have been walking on air since I found out radio station WDCB has read and maybe even regularly reads my blog. I have no idea who there does, but I think of them collectively. This is …read more

The Chicago Weekend Shows Continued…

The Chicago Weekend Shows Continued…

Well, Mother Nature has pulled a nice prank on everyone around here.  Last nigh a bunch of really nasty and severe thunderstorms came through and by this morning, the general air temperature had fallen into the 30s.  It went from Spring into Winter within a matter of twelve hours.  You just have to love Springtime in the Midwest, don’t you?
So, as I always say, what better time to go see a show?  It’s nice and warm in the clubs.  Lots of bodies get pressed together.  It’s dark and the music is awesome.  So, thanks go out to WDCB for the …read more

A Weekend, Chicago…so, Go See a Show!

A Weekend, Chicago…so, Go See a Show!

The weekend has finally arrived.  It is going to be a relatively nice weekend in the ol’ Windy City.  While I have always said that going to a jazz or blues club is best when the weather is crap, it’s also great when the weather is nice.  You can walk to many of the clubs downtown and if you have to wait outside for the place to open it’s no so bad.  Granted, they are also calling for some rain on Friday night, but why quibble.
Thanks and credit always has to go to radio station WDCB for the information that …read more

The Rest of the Weekend Here in Chicago

The Rest of the Weekend Here in Chicago

There are more concerts and performances this weekend in Chicago and the suburbs.  It looks to be a very nice and warm weekend, and hopefully the rest of it will be earthquake free.  Still, if you are dancing in a blues or jazz club, you may not even notice it when the earth shakes.  I only felt the aftershock myself, not the one that hit at 4:30 in the morning, but evidently those of you in the high-rise apartments dowtown felt that earlier one.  Guess there is a price to pay beyond the hundreds of thousands of dollars those condos …read more

Your Jazz and Blues Weekend in Chicago

Your Jazz and Blues Weekend in Chicago

The weekend is here and, wouldn’t you know it, it is freezing and there is a chance of snow all weekend long here in the Windy City.  Yes, welcome to springtime in Chicago.  Still, as I have been positing all winter, there is no better time to visit your local jazz or blues club than during inclement weather.  They are nice and crowded, dark and warm…normally.
So, here are the various jazz and blues concerts this weekend.  Go enjoy some music before the tax deadline next week.  Once again, WDCB helped greatly with this list.

Jazz and Blues Weekend in Chicago

Jazz and Blues Weekend in Chicago

Here in Chicago the weather is finally turning from the brutal thing it was all winter into something almost pleasant.  You still need a jacket, but it may almost be time to put away the one that makes you look like the Michelin Man.  That means festival season will be starting soon.  While the big ones are the Blues Festival that kicks it off and the Jazz Festival that ends it, there are smaller ones all over the suburbs.  I will be keeping an eye out for those very soon.
No festivals are scheduled for this weekend for you jazz and …read more

Once More for Milwaukee

Once More for Milwaukee

Well, I was having issues Saturday morning when I was trying to post about jazz clubs in and around the Milwaukee area.  Every time I would try to paste my list of jazz clubs and then hit “publish” all of the clubs would vanish save for the first two.  I was also visiting with family, so I didn’t have time to keep playing around with it to make it look right.  As such, I had to leave everyone thinking Milwaukee had only two jazz clubs for a couple of days.
My apologies to those of you in Milwaukee and those of …read more
