I have been a very bad co-blogger since I started writing here. I have been so focused, for so long, on just trying to find stories about the jazz and blues genres I am supposed to be writing about, I have not really linked you all to the very cool things other people are doing at the music channel of b5media. Check out that blogroll there at the right side of my page. See all of those links?

Each one is someone just like me and just as passionate about their particular genre of music. In fact, some of them put me to shame. There are those who post 3 or 4 times a day. I prefer to stick to a one-a-day schedule, but that’s because, generally speaking, not much changes from day to day in the jazz and blues world.

Well, one of my fellow bloggers is having a contest and it is a very cool contest and I hope you don’t mind if I diverge from talking about Sad Salamanders and Miles Davis and point you to it. You only have until May 25th to enter and you can win a $25 iTunes Gift Card.

Perhaps one of these days I will manag to get my stuff together enough to have a contest or giveaway of my own. I probably should make sure I know the proper rules for giving away stuff and then find some cool prizes first. I doubt an empty can of peaches or a used nail clipper would really appeal to anyone.

Two Jazz Songs You Need to Add to your iPod Right Now!

The modern world is rather amazing. You can carry an entire music store in your pocket these days. You can switch from rock to blues to jazz to country and then over the rap as fast as it takes you to thumb through your lists and songs on your iPod. Considering that, we here at b5media and those of us who write for the Music Channel wanted to provide you with a list of songs that we think you need to add to your iPod playlist and that we think you should add TODAY.

As far as I am concerned, and as far as jazz goes, there are two songs that leap to mind. The first is from the notorious Concert of 1964 and is a classic live version from his album “Kind of Blue.” The tune is called “So What” and the way it is played live here will blow you away (and if the player won’t play, you can visit this link).

As for the second song you MUST have, well, there just isn’t any jazz collection that can be complete without Dave Brubeck’s “Take Five.” This comes from one of the greatest jazz albums of all-time “Time Out.” It was the tune that Dave and the rest of the band wasn’t even sure they wanted to put on the album, and then decided to do so at the last minute so their drummer would have a piece that featured him. So, of course, it became the biggest hit.
