Well, I am running into some minor problems with the software that would have, hopefully, allowed me to sort of broadcast live from the Chicago Blues Festival. Apparently the people at WordPress, who allow me to blog, haven’t caught up with the new technology that would allow me to, essentially, turn voicemails into text that you could read here as I am standing in downtown Chicago at the Chicago Blues Festival.

The biggest music festival in the Chicago area is about to start this week. OK, Lollapalooza might be a tad bigger, but outside of that, this one this the biggie. I do plan to be there, at the very least on Saturday. I hope to check out a lot of the music and report back about what happened here and I may have even found a way to do it FROM the festival, but we’ll have to see how that works.

I felt so bad for yesterday’s post when I almost forgot to credit the greatest radio station in the world, I have been writing that last sentence over and over again on a chalkboard I found. The weather has, for the most part, finally started to get warm around here. Of course, I am writing this the evening after we had a night of 39 degree weather. But still, compared to the below zero temps we had most of the winter, 39 degrees is a heatwave. On Monday, we were in the 80s and I heard people actually complaining about how hot it was. It’s probably a lost cause, and I admit it. I want to be the place where people can go to find out about all of the coolest jazz festivals. The problem is, though, there are just so many music festivals, and so many of them dedicated to jazz and blues, that it really has to be an impossible task. The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival is on of those events that has just kind of surpassed its original intent. It may have started out as a kind of small local festival to feature the jazz music associated with New Orleans, but since hurricane Katrina, it has taken on new symbolism. Each year since that storm, the festival has grown and grown and grown, as has the population. In other words, the festival has become a kind of symbol of the growth, rebuilding and regeneration of the city itself.

I am still trying to keep an eye out for various festivals and things in and around the Chicago area. Thankfully, there are a lot of those, especially when you consider the suburbs as well.
