Your Chicago Blues Festival Coverage

Your Chicago Blues Festival Coverage

If this works the way the Utterz people say it will, you should be able to hear my posts live from the 25th Annual Chicago Blues Festival on Saturday June 7, 2008. My posts should all be there for your listening enjoyment. The mainstage stars for June 7 are Buckwheat Zydeco, but there are 7 stages of great music.

More About the Chicago Blues Festival Performances

Well, I am running into some minor problems with the software that would have, hopefully, allowed me to sort of broadcast live from the Chicago Blues Festival. Apparently the people at WordPress, who allow me to blog, haven’t caught up with the new technology that would allow me to, essentially, turn voicemails into text that you could read here as I am standing in downtown Chicago at the Chicago Blues Festival.
Needless to say, I find this very disappointing. I was hoping to update the blog throughout the day and now I will just have to try …read more

More About the Chicago Blues Festival

More About the Chicago Blues Festival

The biggest music festival in the Chicago area is about to start this week. OK, Lollapalooza might be a tad bigger, but outside of that, this one this the biggie. I do plan to be there, at the very least on Saturday. I hope to check out a lot of the music and report back about what happened here and I may have even found a way to do it FROM the festival, but we’ll have to see how that works.
The whole show opens up with the great Johnny Winter. There are multiple stages as well. …read more

More for the End of May and another Festival

More for the End of May and another Festival

Thanks to WDCB, thanks to WDCB, thanks to WDCB. I felt so bad for yesterday’s post when I almost forgot to credit the greatest radio station in the world, I have been writing that last sentence over and over again on a chalkboard I found. OK, that may be a slight exaggeration, but I would hate to tick off the station I rely on so heavily to keep everyone, including myself, informed about jazz and blues shows every weekend.
There is also another jazz festival that is sponsored by the station and I have mentioned it before. However, I …read more

Checking in on the Festivals

Checking in on the Festivals

The weather has, for the most part, finally started to get warm around here. Of course, I am writing this the evening after we had a night of 39 degree weather. But still, compared to the below zero temps we had most of the winter, 39 degrees is a heatwave. On Monday, we were in the 80s and I heard people actually complaining about how hot it was. Come on people, either you want it cold or you want it hot, let’s not be total wimps here.
That means it is festival season and I have mentioned, …read more

Jazz in the Motor City

Jazz in the Motor City

It’s probably a lost cause, and I admit it. I want to be the place where people can go to find out about all of the coolest jazz festivals. The problem is, though, there are just so many music festivals, and so many of them dedicated to jazz and blues, that it really has to be an impossible task. There ought to be a blog dedicated to just following and discussing music festivals (hint, hint, b5media).
However, while looking around I found a link and some information about the Detroit International Jazz Festival. Now you and I …read more

The Closing of the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival and the Neville Brothers

The Closing of the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival and the Neville Brothers

The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival is on of those events that has just kind of surpassed its original intent. It may have started out as a kind of small local festival to feature the jazz music associated with New Orleans, but since hurricane Katrina, it has taken on new symbolism. Each year since that storm, the festival has grown and grown and grown, as has the population. In other words, the festival has become a kind of symbol of the growth, rebuilding and regeneration of the city itself.
I am not going to sit here and …read more

Another Reminder about the Chicago Blues Festival

Another Reminder about the Chicago Blues Festival

I have written about the Chicago Blues Festival several times here.  Of course, this blog started well after the last one was over.  So, I didn’t get much chance to cover the event or talk about it beforehand.  At the same time, I have written about it this year, but then, with every new post, the previous ones move down one slot.  Eventually they fall off the page, as you may have noticed.  You can still find them, but it takes some effort and I am all about making things easier for you.
You can read about the festival by clicking …read more
