I have a brother. That’s not all I came here to tell you about today, but he and his lovely family live in Milwaukee. Milwaukee is a great town despite being in Wisconsin (relax Wisconsiners, I am in Illinois, we cannot resist picking on you). It is just close enough to Chicago to almost be a suburb, but the people up there vehmently deny having any proximity to Chicago. It’s kind of funny.

For all of you who are not in Chicago, I apologize.  I love this town.  You really should visit.  If you happen to love jazz, then you really need to visit.  There is an entire vacation you can have all related to jazz if you come up here, I am quite sure.  You just have to stop at the Velvet Lounge, for example.

I was planning on writing another article about another classic jazz artist, but I have had a bunch of things come up, so I need to write about something else instead.  So, as such, I am going to tell you about a local jazz concert by a famous jazz person and that is all for a good cause.

In the city of Chicago, your broadcasting options for good jazz is very limited.  The NPR station, WBEZ, that used to broadcast classic jazz during the overnight hours, has since closed up shop.
There is WNUA, which is a Smooth Jazz station.  However, I have never been as big a fan of Smooth Jazz as I have the classic jazz of people like Miles Davis and Dizzie Gillespie.
There is, however, WDCB, which is the listener-sponsored station on the campus of the College of DuPage.  They have become the leading jazz station in the city by default.  They also sponsor a lot …read more
