The New Releases for the Week of July 28

The New Releases for the Week of July 28

I know this is a day late. That’s what happens when your critical lifeline, AllAboutJazz.com, goes down and won’t come up during the time I slot to write this particular blog. That’s what happened to me on Tuesday and I had to go with another blog about the Chicago Jazz Festival. I hate it when my personal schedule gets disrupted.
It’s a busy week for new releases and reissues. So, without further ado, here is the list from the fine folks at AllAboutJazz.com:

New Releases for July 22, 2008

The new releases are here again. If you recall, and you can page down if you don’t, I was talking about the website called AllAbouJazz.com for one of the best places on the web for jazz information and news. I raved about thta yesterday, and today I am using them because it is the big day for new releases and reissues.
It’s another impressive list and I want to thank the AllAboutJazz.com people for providing all of this information on a regular basis. They really do a great job and you should check them out.

Get to Know AllAboutJazz.com

Get to Know AllAboutJazz.com

There is a website I visit every week. I try hard to mention them here and give them as much credit as I can. They deserve it. The world of jazz music is filled with organizations trying to keep jazz music alive and doing so on an entirely volunteer basis. It’s tough to get paid when you love jazz. It’s a great genre of music, as is the blues, but jazz is not the most popular form of music out there. People are intimidated by it and that is too bad.
I am, of course, …read more

New Releases and Reissues for the Start of July

New Releases and Reissues for the Start of July

It is officially July. I know, as I have said here many times in the past few weeks, I can’t belive it either. Still, the month does start off on a Tuesday and that means new and reissued jazz music for you and your collection. Start copying down some names and start visiting your favorite place for music.
Once again, I need to give credit to the great folks at “AllAboutJazz.com” for providing the information below. I still can’t recommend that site highly enough and encourage you to check it out and support them.

AllAboutJazz.com’s Open Jazz Project

AllAboutJazz.com’s Open Jazz Project

AllAboutJazz.com is a great website for people who love jazz. They have lots of CD reviews and they have the most definitive list of new releases and re-issues that you are likely to find anywhere. They have a simple mission and, as their website says, it is “to build a music resource where everyone can play an active role in furthering the awareness of jazz and jazz musicians on the internet.”
The cool thing about it, and the amazing thing, is that the entire website and the organization is run by volunteers. Their writers are volunteers and their …read more

The Collapse of the IAJE

The Collapse of the IAJE

I was rooting around on the website known as AllBoutJazz.com just looking for a story or something interesting to write about. I came across an article about the collapse and filing for bankruptcy of an organization known as the International Association of Jazz Educators. Apparently this was a significant organization promoting jazz educators across North America. The article is entitled “The IAJE’s Collapse: What Happened?”.
Now, I am not really here to mourn the loss of this organization. I like to think I can follow various events in the jazz world, but until I came across this …read more

The New Releases and Reissues for the First Week of April

The New Releases and Reissues for the First Week of April

It is now the month of April and that means that there are new jazz and blues albums out.  Of course, I cannot find a nice blues publication that lists all of the new releases and re-issues such as you can find at AllAboutJazz.com.  It’s a very cool site with lots of CD reviews and concert reviews.  It has just about everything a jazz nut could want.
So, without much further ado, here is the list of new releases and reissues for:

A Link to Eric Dolphy

A Link to Eric Dolphy

When it comes to jazz you run across certain names and they are usually whispered by fans with a kind of awe.  For me, as you may already know, that name is Miles Davis.  For my brother, it is Charlie “Bird” Parker.  For some it is John Coltrane.  One of the names you hear whispered a lot by people who want to be jazz afficianados is Eric Dolphy.  I wanted to provide you a link HERE to a great article I have found about Mr. Dolphy.
For me, I have never been a huge fan of Mr. Dolphy.  Mostly this is …read more
