Don’t Forget About this One!
A while back I mentioned that the Hyde Park area of Chicago was having a jazz festival at the end of September. Since that part of the month is fast approaching, I felt it might be time to publish some kind of reminder.
Plus, I did find out that the entire event is being welcomed and sponsored by my favorite jazz radio station (OK, truth be told, the ONLY jazz radio station). That station is WDCB out of the College of DuPage. I cannot rave enough about that station. If you love jazz, no matter where you are, you can listen to them online. Their site is www.wdcb.org.
Anyway, just a reminder that the festival is coming. It is Saturday September 29 and it goes from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Here is a list of performers:
Orbert Davis
Willie Pickens
Kurt Elling
Maggie Brown
Corey Wilkes
Two for Brazil
Dee Alexander
Mwata Bowden’s X-tet
Charles “Rick” Heath with Jumaane Taylor
Reginald T. McCants
Tony “Toca” Carpenter with Ari Brown
Chicago Sax in the City (four saxophonists): Skinny Williams, Ray Silkman, Audley Reid and James Perkins
Bill McFarland and the Chicago Horns
Travis Jackson with Muntu Dancers
Midnight Jam Session at the Checkerboard Lounge
You can find these at the following venues:
Dusable Museum
Oriental Institute
Frank Lloyd Wright Robie House
Smart Museum
Hyde Park Midway
Hyde Park Arts Center
Oh, and the WDCB website says: Jazz Trolleys will transport attendees between venues.
You just have to love “Jazz Trolleys.”
