A Classic Performance
I am telling you that YouTube is about the greatest thing the internet has ever produced. Yes, I am male, but I am going to discount the myriad of porn available to pretty much everyone at this time. Why do I love YouTube? Because you can find just about anything on there as long as it isn’t too perverted. This is especially true when it comes to great jazz performances.
Check THIS one out.
I have no idea what TV show that is. I am also unsure of what awards are being given out. OK, well, the guys says what awards are being given out, but is this an awards show or some long-forgotten talk show from the 50s? Yes, that is Charlie “Bird”Parker playing with a young Dizzy Gillespie.
Notice how Dizzy’s cheeks are already flaring out farther than the wingspans of most birds. This is some pretty rare and glorious stuff right here. Considering this must be a copy of a copy of a copy, the quality isn’t half bad either. With my speakers it sounds a bit like listening to an old vinyl record.
According to one comment, this is the only piece of live Charlie Parker. Now, I have a hard time believing that, but I have yet to come across much in the way of live video. There are lots of live audio recordings, but it’s tough to come across a live video performance.
Whoever recorded this had their hands on some great historical stuff and I am glad they have seen fit to post it where it can be seen by the rest of us.
Enjoy!
