The Christmas Entry
Well, I for one had a really great Christmas. I spent most of it looking at my baby niece and marveling at the fact that she was so beautiful and starting to respond to my voice, make noises back at me and look around and notice things. I mean, really, how incredibly cool is that. I can also say, without a doubt, that she is the cutest baby in the history of babies. Then again, I might be a tad biased.
I will confess, I had a remarkably music-free Christmas, however. Much of the focus was on the baby and the other babies that have popped up this year. So, I got a cool new watch, some much-needed clothing and other cool stuff, but little in the way of new music.
Still, I got at least two Amazon.com gift certificates. I don’t think the two of them together are enough to buy one of those sweet Miles Davis box sets I like, but they should be able to catch me up on a few new jazz CDs that have come out this year and that I have not purchased.
I hope you and yours had a great holiday as well. I also hope your holiday was filled with cool music and, more importantly to this blog, lots of great jazz and/or bues.

Gosh, I never expected my comment to be published online on your blog! Hey, thanks mate! Great to read about your neice and yes kids always get the better of me and my music. I have two rascals of my own – 10 and 4 year olds – who will often shirk homework and retort with smart-alecky Dylan lines to avoid a rebuke or two.
I hope you do find some time to revisit Oscar Peterson today. I belive he died yesterday. I must dig out my Peterson CDs tonight. On the 24th, this Hungarian saxophomist called Tony Lakatos played at Blue Frog. He and his pianist and the young drummer took my breath away. From gysy jazz to some avante garde funk to some lovely interpretations of Scofield, the band was a delightful mix of the sublime and the divine… You know what I mean…
But based in Chicago, I do envy you. Isn’t that place full of jazz clubs and live bands… At least thats what the movies show…
Thanks again… and Keep on keeping on…
