OK, Be Warned…

I got this e-mail.  See, since I started writing this blog and people have begun reading it, I get some strange e-mails.  You know how e-mail is.  Sometimes they seem just sort of legit and then you scratch your head and wonder.

So, this one came to me and I have been sitting here debating while also going to my book reading and making plans to visit my niece.  Is this legit?  I don’t know.  It sort of seems like one of those e-mails from a guy who supposedly represents the Sultan of Burnai or something and he just wants to get your bank information so he can deposit a million bucks in your account.

So, be warned…if this is legit…cool…  If it’s a scam, well, you didn’t hear it from me.

Jazz Utsav 2007 an International jazz Festival is being organized by a team of Jazz music lovers, in Mumbai – India over 3 days.

Formerly the same Committee under the aegis of JAZZ INDIA organized the Jazz Yatra that was the longest running Jazz festival outside the USA.

Previously it was a week long festival with groups performing on two separate days.
The venue used to be the open air Rang Bhavan located in South Mumbai, but since the Government banned shows at Rang Bhavan we have been forced to have the concerts at much smaller venues.

Started in 2005 Jazz Utsav has featured some really great musicians from different countries. The core team or organizers is still the same.

Jazz Utsav is organized by a Committee called Capital Jazz that is based both in Mumbai and In Delhi.

In Delhi Capital Jazz is chaired by Mr. Soli Sohrabjee and in Mumbai it is headed by Mr. Nasser Munjee.

Mr. Soli Sohrabjee is the former Attorney General of India. He is supported by a team of Amit Saigal, & H.P.Singh.

Mr. Nasser Munjee is Chairman of DCB Bank. His team is Mr.Prakash A Thadani & Mr. Ashok Gulati as Joint Hon. Secretaries.

Other Committee Members are Louiz Banks, Sir Jehangir Jehangir, Nakul Mehta, Malini Thadani, Jayanta Sengupta.

This team does all the planning, hospitality, & organizing on an honorary basis and due to a severe paucity of funds we have had to curtail many expenses.

Our web site www.jazzutsav.com will be ready for viewing by this weekend. We are seeking the participation of an American and European group if they can obtain funding to visit India.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Prakash A Thadani

Look into it…if they’re going to fly you there…take it…if they want you to deposit your life savings into their account to pick it up when you get there…run.

Since they didn’t ask for your credit card or bank info up front, and the website exists and even has a schedule, I lean towards calling it legit.

There’s a pretty decent annual jazz festival here in Jerusalem. And Tel-Aviv has a thriving jazz scene. Good music travels.
