More Blues on Chicago Radio
Finding the blues on Chicago radio can be a bit tricky. I honestly do not know of any stations dedicated to JUST the blues. Maybe because that would just be too much misery for 24 hours of solid broadcast.
There are some stations that have blues-related shows. One of them is a guy who has been a radio legend in Chicago for over thirty years. His name is Steve Dahl, his newsman is also a blues performer named Buzz Killman and every Monday they have “Blue Monday.” What this means is the show kicks off with a great blues song, is sprinkled throughout with more blues and they often have blues performers in the studio.
Today, the had Melvin Taylor in the studio. Accord to Buzz, he may be the greatest blues guitarist around and he even compared him to Jimi Hendrix.
Considering the huge blues festival we just had here in town (the “Crossroads” festival featuring Eric Claption), you have to wonder how Melvin ended up sitting that one out.
For more about Blue Monday, Melvin Taylor or anything related to Steve Dahl, check out his website at www.dahl.com. You can tune into him online at www.wckg.com. He also had podcasts of his show on his website, so you can catch Melvin playing today.
I’ll have more about the Crossroads festival later this week!
